'Blowing, glowing and flowing: Glassworks'  contemporary prints and paintings
by Michael Smithson

Sample image A

Sample image B

The paintings and prints in this exhibition are the result of observing glass artists at work in the “hot shop” at the Canberra Glassworks. Glass is an exciting medium in itself, and I have long admired the ways that glass artists work individually and in teams.  They combine long-practiced technique with skilled improvisation, rather like a good jazz band or dance ensemble. I hope to have captured their commitment, dynamism, and fluidity in these works - Michael Smithson
